Introducing a new label NYNE to the Signet Bureau!

Based in Hamilton, New Zealand, NYNE was established by three designers Tina Patrick, Miranda Scott-Simmonds and Jacob Scott- Simmonds in 2004.  With backgrounds in fashion workrooms, graphic design and retail, the three partners bring a multitude of varied skills to the label and the business alike.

All elements of their collections are sourced and produced in New Zealand.  NYNE has a unique aesthetic that inspires creative thinking and dressing. There are staple, quality items that will never go out of style and there are edgier pieces to work in with the classics. The collections mean you can try something different and collect clothes that will work with other pieces. The result is that dressing becomes a creative process. Customers defy a generic aesthetic and have an individual look.

Fluid fabrics lend themselves to an uncomplicated layering of pieces. Collections are highly tactile, using tonal colour   and texture to create a distinctly moody aesthetic and a skillful blend of contrasts – hard vs. soft, light vs. dark.

Dark, metallic and androgynous textures are combined with light, ethereal and flowing fabrics.

The Signet Bureau has a selection of their S/S 2012-2013 range in store now.
Wing Jacket, we have this piece in Black/black and Mushroom/ black in store, not in colour pictured.
This cropped jacket is great for a chilly spring day, over jeans, or a dress.

Tetra Tee; available in black, ash and mushroom jersey, all with no print.
This top is a great twist on the basic tank, the draped side panel adds drama and soft movement.

Repeater cropped Tee, available in eclipse, as pictured, cream and black.
A lovely sheer top to layer over dresses and other tops, when you want to add something to cover your shoulders, but not necessarily a cardigan.

From the designers of Preston Zly comes a rare insight into their creative process.

The following quotes are from designers Johanna Preston and Petr Zly in a recent interview for Textiles and Fashion Industries Australia. The images were taken in their light filled studio above Smith Street in Collingwood.

‘Our inspiration comes from many aspects of the world around us – it might be a graphic on a piece of porcelain, an image of a vintage shoe, or something as strange as a distorted image seen through a mirror – it’s about shapes, redefining femininity and creating something that while being timeless is in no way conservative. The inspiration is the easy part!’

‘I love seeing ideas come to fruition. All aspects of running our business require a high level of creativity and while sometimes exhausting, it’s very exciting. I also love to see sample shoes transformed by use of different colours and textiles. Above all, I love to catch a glimpse of an amazing pair of shoes on someone stylish while driving in my car and to have the realisation dawn on me that they are Preston Zly’s,’

‘I see bespoke, handmade and artisan practices coming to the forefront of the truly dynamic design movement of the Australian Fashion Industry – mass production has led to more and more of the same and people are seeking difference and product with integrity. In an era of mass production, the only way to create difference and celebrate individuality is via a ‘slow’ approach to fashion that is heavily reliant on bespoke, handmade and artisan practices.’
